Thanks y’all

Wow, we did it. We’re married. The wedding was awesome. It was great to see so many of our friends and family together having a good time. It was pretty funny too, my scheduling was perfect.

At a quarter to one Alex started rushing me to leave the hotel lobby because the ceremony was supposed to start soon. I told him to relax cause I knew that it wouldn’t start at 1pm like it was supposed to. I told our wedding coordinator when we set the time-line for the wedding- we should set the start time for 1pm so that we’re actually done with the 15 minute ceremony by 2pm. That’s just the way it goes I guess. So after Alex rushed me a little more one of the photographers said the bride wasn’t even dressed yet, so I got to say told ya so.

We eventually made our way over to the ceremony site and we were off to the side on a walkway just waiting and people came over to greet us. It was kind of funny because I wasn’t really nervous or anything and I was really relaxed. But then my grandmother came up to me and she was a little emotional and she mentioned that she loved the programs and how we mentioned my grandfather in the memorial section of it. Now she got me all emotional! It was actually hard not to cry at all, but I couldn’t let all my makeup run. I love my Gramma and Grampa, I wish my Grampa could have been there with us. Sophia and I setup a small table with pictures of my maternal grandfather, my paternal grandparents, and a picture of Sophia’s dad. While we waited, our DJ, who is also an excellent pianist, was playing live on his keyboard. I was impressed because we didn’t really discuss any other music besides the four songs he would be playing live during the ceremony, so it was nice to hear the other music he played while everyone was getting seated and waiting for the ceremony to begin.

Okay, it’s 1:40ish, let’s go wait in line to start the 1pm ceremony. So we lined up… …and then we walked out to the Godfather Theme. Then the bridesmaids walked out to Jordin Sparks’ No Air and the maids of honor escorted my Gramma, the flowergirl, arm in arm. Then finally, to Ne-Yo’s Because of You Sophia’s little brother Joey escorted Sophia and gave her away to me.

The Justice of the Peace performed the ceremony very nicely, it was a beautiful rose ceremony. After making out with my bride we posed for a couple quick photos and then ran away with the bridal party to take some pictures.

One thing that was awesome about The Warren was taking our formal pictures. While all of our guests enjoyed cocktail hour, we were off taking photos with the bridal party. My wife and I were driven around the beautiful property on a golf cart, with a second golf cart following us with drinks and Hors D’Oeuvres. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like having the beer follow you.

After an interesting formal photo session we went to the reception hall where DJ Russ announced us all and some of our distinguished guests. Then Sophia and I had our first dance. It felt to me like it went really well, and we got a lot of good compliments on it, so I think it worked out pretty well. Sophia was very nervous about our first dance, so we practiced before the wedding, but not enough to make her less nervous ;)

Then the Best Men made their toast. Which was a little funny because it started with the more drunk of the two. They did a good job though. I think it would have been funny if we made the Maids of Honor (or Maid of Honors depending on your choice of term pluralization) make a toast also, as they aren’t public speakers either. I’m pretty sure they were already drunk, but I don’t think they were drunk enough to make that as hysterical as it could be.

The day before the wedding I drove round-trip to New York for my kung fu class. It was a lot of fun as usual, but my kung fu brother Shifu Eli said something that turned out to be very true. Eli had recently been married so he told me to cherish every moment of the day with my bride because the day would pass in the blink of an eye, and the next day it would seem like it was already a month ago.

He was right. The day flew by and it was impossible to do everything I wanted to. Sophia and I were dragged in every direction for pictures, for dancing, socializing, and if we had the chance, to actually eat some food. And let me tell you, the food was worth being a little anti-social to eat. My plate had both the steak and salmon, and they were both delicious! After installing food and beer in me belly, I was back on the dance floor, actually dancing (instead of doing my gangsta head-bob). The only time I felt kind of silly dancing was right after Shijiao was dancing with my bride. Shijiao can dance ridiculously well, and I’m mediocre at best, so following him wasn’t easy.

Yet another example of the crazy pace of the day, I broke away for a minute to go hang out with Shijiao while he enjoyed a cigar. I sat down, and bam, two people came over looking for me and I had to run back inside for the garter toss. So I had a couple friends I was trying to aim at over my should but, unfortunately for my evil scheming, my cousin has crazy reflexes. Seth, besides being almost as tall as me played center on his basketball team and tons of other sports type stuff. So when that garter came within a few feet of Seth’s reach, he grabbed it without even realizing what happened. All of a sudden the garter was in his hand. Oh well, there goes my plotting.

More dancing, more drinking, more fun. More getting tired and worn out. Too much excitement! There should be a 20 minute nap time where the hosts bring out cots for people to nap. Or not, whatever. So when the party was finally over I went back to my hotel room and jumped into bed to relax a few minutes, waiting for the bride. …And waiting. And waiting. Sophia was running back and forth with her bridesmaids from the bridal room to their other hotel room. Then she had to pack her stuff up to bring it to our room. So I got bored and went to hang out with my friends in their rooms. I grabbed my friend Wayne, who taught me to play guitar, he grabbed his guitar and we went across the hall to the room my other friends were hanging out in.

Mike, George, Katlynn, Mai, Jason, Cindy, Lex Luthor, were hanging out in their drunken silliness, which got even sillier when Wayne started playing his acoustic guitar and everyone tried singing along. It was mostly funny because, as you would expect, people mostly knew part of the choruses to any song, but as soon as the verse started people either hummed or got quiet. Eventually Sophia made it over to the room so I left with her and everybody else kept hanging out in their drunken sing-a-long. I was told at one point, to Mike’s chagrin, they grabbed his laptop to look up lyrics online, and that didn’t help too much anyway. Hilarious.

We spent the next day relaxing at the hotel started off by a delicious buffet breakfast. Then we said our buh-byes to family and friends that had to go home. That night I took Sophia out on our first date as a married couple to see The Dark Knight in Imax (her first time going to Imax). It was fun. Some people think once you’re married you don’t need to do things like going on dates or taking time out to just relax with your better half. I can’t think of anything else that I would rather do.

4 days, 4 hours, 44 minutes

Friends and family start arriving today. I don’t actually know the exact details of it all, which is kinda weird. I should probably call people and find out. I do know we’re picking up one of the Maids of Honor this morning at the airport. I know Sophia is going to be so happy to have her best friends finally come visit her here in the “country.” Even though Worcester is the second largest city in New England. Sure, if you don’t like going to bars, playing pool, or watching movies there’s nothing to do out here. But, hey, Two Out of Three Aint Bad.

6 days, 1 hour, 7 minutes

Wow. 6 days! Everything is just about set for the wedding. Except we still need to pick out some music, sorry Russ! It’s been crazy, we’ll get that to you soon.

We got our rings, finally, and we both love the rings we picked out. That was the last big stressor before the wedding, so now I can relax a little. The hunt for the rings was crazy. We went to so many Jewelry stores it was ridiculous. We figured out what we wanted pretty quickly, but finding the exact match wasn’t easy. There was always something slightly off about it. That is until, at least for Sophia’s ring, we went to Helzberg diamonds. They had the perfect ring, so we got it as soon as we could. That still left me searching for my ring. I knew exactly what I wanted, but apparently it didn’t exist. I wanted a domed, high polish, white gold comfort fit ring with a single square cut diamond flush mounted in it. We thought we found it in a book, but it turned out to be a round diamond in a square setting (for some stupid reason). So the jeweler offered to make it for us for a decent price (after a little haggling). I decided it wasn’t worth it and went with my next choice, which I wound up liking better. Tungsten Carbide. It’s supposedly the hardest metal on the planet. 4 times harder than titanium. It is also really hard to scratch and should be able to stand up to how much rings get abused on my hands. A word of advice. Ok two. First, do your homework before buying! Jewelers, depending on where you go, charge between $70 and $500 for the same exact tungsten carbide ring. Second, don’t believe them when they tell you that you will need to have your finger cut off (it’s a sales pitch to get you to spend more money on gold). Tungsten Carbide can be cut with the right tools, or broken with a hammer or vise grips (I know it sounds cool, huh?).

In two days friends and family start arriving, so we’re going to have some fun which means we need to get all of our work for the week done ASAP ;)

I’m excited! It’s going to be great to see so many of our friends and family together.

19 1/2 Days!

Insane in the membrane! 20 days left! Not stressed! Not me! Ok, maybe a little. We’re pretty much set on all the planning except the music which we’re going to figure out this week.

We still need rings! We finally found what should be the perfect ring for Sophia, and we saw a great ring for me, but it was in a catalog and it’s too late to order and get it in time for the wedding. Hopefully we’ll figure all of that out this week!

It looks like we’re going to have about 100 people at the wedding, maybe more once we hear from the rest of the people we invited. HURRY UP PEOPLE! It’s getting late! We’re meeting next week with our wedding planner to discuss the final final final details of the wedding planning.

I’m looking forward to the big day, it’s gonna be a partyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Speaking of parties the best men types told me not to plan anything on a certain weekend coming up, this should be interesting.

2 Months Left

Almost everything is all set! We’ve got a few photographers, a videographer, cake designer, the site and catering, flowers, dj and our JP. We already picked out the dresses and tuxes, but Sophy still gets to stress out because people need to order their dresses already and haven’t done it yet.

We’re finally starting to see some more of the response cards, which is nice, so I can actually start making plans. It’s going to be a fun day. I went to NY yesterday for kung fu and afterwards we went out to eat. I love my Looang Foo Pai family, it’s a lot of fun when we get together, so I know the reception is going to be awesome with a lot of them there to party with us.

Sophia’s bachelorette party WEEKEND was crazy so I’m interested to see what my friends come up with for my party next month. This may come to a shock to somebody, if anyone bothers to read this far (or at all), but I’ve never been to a strip club. So now certain parties have insisted that we’re going to a strip club. I guess I always figured why go out and pay to see boobies when you’ve got a perfect pair at home…and Sophia’s are pretty nice too! [Jay Leno's chin would be proud of that joke.]

It’s exciting that the day is coming soon, I think I should probably start looking at vacation packages for our honeymoon. Anybody own some ocean front property in Puerto Rico?

We got a DJ!

Wedding DJ

Woohoo! We finally found the right DJ for our wedding! We had met with a handful of DJs, none of which quite matched our personalities. We finally found one that perfectly matches what we want at our wedding. Don’t worry Gramma, he assures me he won’t play the music too loud during dinner!

My little brother did something right? Wow!

Yesterday my lil bro got married….finally. It’s amazing that his wife put up with him for so long, and now they get to spend their entire lives together. ;)

It was a beautiful wedding. Well decorated, great location and it looked like a great photographer and videographer as well. I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures and the video. …Especially because, to my pleasant surprise, Sophia and I walked down the aisle to the theme of “The Godfather.” It was pretty awesome. In fact, I think we may use that theme for our ceremony. Muahahaha.

Besides the excellent theme music it was really nice seeing my whole family. It’s been many years since we’ve all been together. It sucks that they won’t all be at my wedding, but it was nice to get to see them all just the same. I’m looking forward to getting those family portraits the photographer took, I don’t think we ever had any really.

Jewish weddings are interesting. It basically started out with guests arriving directly into a cocktail hour(ish) while Rabbis, family, and witnesses oversaw the engagement ceremony where the religious wedding contract is inspected and signed. That process took some time and after it was completed the bride and groom were brought before each other for the first time in seven days. My brother inspected his bride and placed a veil on her which then led to the actual wedding ceremony.

The ceremony was really nice. My sister and Grandmother led the way followed by my older brothers and their families each to their own song followed by me and Sophia with our aforementioned theme music. Then my parents brought in my brother at the end of two shotguns. Okay, there wasn’t any shotguns. It was sweet either way. Then the bride’s family walked the aisle followed by the bride’s parents escorting the bride arm-in-arm.

Once the bride is brought under the Chupah (the big square thing they stand under) they commenced with the wedding rituals…or traditions if you think it sounds less creepy. The bride walks around the groom 7 times, then 7 prayers are said by 7 people and then the groom breaks a glass. There are a lot of theories as to why a glass is broken. My favorite being that the glass symbolizes the endless amount of liquor it takes to make a marriage last in these times. Or maybe it’s because liquor is bad and they break the cup to stop alcohol abuse– an ancient political statement? But I digest (yeah, I stole that joke from the Star Wars episode of Family Guy) it was all very nice.

The food was surprisingly good for Kosher catering. Although Ben Roofiestein pointed out that kosher sushi tends to be inferior to non-kosher sushi, it was still pretty good. Kudos on the open-bar.

3 Months to go…

Three months to go! Holy crap. Most of our vendors are signed and there’s only a few things left to do to prepare for the big day. I’m pretty excited and a little stressed out at the same time. We’ve got a ton of work to do AND we still need to prepare more for the wedding.

On the bright side, we signed a florist yesterday who is AWESOME. She really has a great attention to detail and really listens to what we want. Her new website will be up soon at http://www.jeweltonesflowers.com. We’ve already got one photographer, and we’re meeting with a couple more photographers this coming week. We want to have 3 to 5 photographers there. We’re also meeting with a couple more DJs next week and we will need to decide which one we want.

We’re meeting with our wedding planner next week and we will finally go over all the details for the wedding day. I can’t wait until all the planning is over and the day comes so we can all have a great time.  Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Holy Fargin’ Invitations Batman!

Our Wedding Invitations

Wow, that was a pain in the ass! I think it was worth it though. We made the invitations ourselves which literally saved us thousands of dollars. Sophia and I designed them together then I built them all. It was tedious! From cutting and gluing to aligning everything correctly, wow, tediosity. I don’t care if it’s not a real word.  The invitations look cool to me, I hope everybody likes them enough to come to the wedding ;)

So after having gone through the whole process, now I understand why people charge so much to do that crap. I had to keep washing my hands in hot water and, ewww, soap, to get the glue off. ….and there’s still some glue left!

Woohoo! All done except for a few more addresses I need to print. I’m mailing them all out tomorrow! Or today, or yesterday, or a while ago depending on when you read, or don’t read this.

99 Days Left

It’s kinda nutty. We’re under 100 days… Just over three months until the wedding. We’ve got most of the stuff figured out, just a few things left to plan the wedding. We’ve got the location, which is awesome, we’ve got an amazing cake designer, and we’re meeting with a florist soon. We’ve spoken with a few photographers and we just need to decide what we’re going to do. We have a couple meetings with DJs coming up as well.

So we were having the paper for the invitations we’re making cut at a local office supply store and there happened to be a Justice of the Peace’s business card sitting on the counter… I guess they might have had their cards printed there, but I grabbed one just in case it was meant to be ;)

I haven’t decided yet if I want a videographer or not. I prefer photos but I have a feeling there will be some hilarious moments at the wedding. There should also be some good dancing between Sophia’s family and my LFP Kung Fu Family… As far as the rest of my family goes, I guess we shall see if they can dance or not…

I registered at Men’s Wearhouse MW Tux for the wedding. I wasn’t going to but I decided it would be a lot cheaper for people to rent tuxes than buy zoot suits. Our group name is “The Coolest Group Ever.” I think Mai’s fitting for the tux should be the funniest. Muahahahah. Best of all, we’ve got cool shoes:
